Last night I went to my local Best Buy in Plymouth Meeting, PA for their special Sunday night members-only sale and the shelves and aisles were all stocked and ready for the holiday shopping season.Best Buy seems to think that HDTVs will continue to be big sellers and Blu-ray disc players were also prevalent. Next to to Best Buy's Insignia brand stacked prominently in the middle of the store was a Samsung player that also had wifi for
Netflix and
Pandora.
In all of this plenty I noticed a few things that were absent or scarce. There were no Palm PDAs. Months ago I was keeping an eye out for a sale on them as I knew they were going to be discontinued. Well, I guess I forgot all about the Palm and missed any sale Best Buy might of had.
Scarce were
eMusic cards. Last holiday season there were many more of them. last night there were very few of them and the $50 cards outnumbered the $30 cards. I'm guessing eMusic is on the way out of Best Buy stores.
Also there were very few
slotRadio cards. Those are the micro SD cards with 1,000 songs on them. A few music genres were sold out and the few they had had only a few units available. SlotRadio like eMusic cards are probably on their way out of Best Buy stores as well.
Best Buy put
XM Radio in the corner. The satellite radios used to have a more prominent place in the store with an end-cap and displays standing in aisles but no more. It's back in a corner for satrad. Best Buy did have the
Pioneer XMP3 portable unit, the
XpressRC and the new
Onyx. However I didn't see home docks for the XpressRC or Onyx.
The HP netbooks looked nice as did the small point-and-shoot
Nikon Coolpix S220 digital cameras. My Nikon camera is getting old and I don't think Windows 7 supports it so I may be getting a new one this holiday season.
This concludes my little scouting mission to Best Buy, I didn't stay long as I was depressed by the Eagles loss just minutes prior to my arrival.
