Red Widow pilot this week and Saturday Night Live is back with a new show. UPDATED: Vikings starts Sunday night!

These are the TV shows I plan on watching this week. Most of them I will watch by DVR or OnDemand. All times ET.

 

Monday

The Following, The Fall. Fox, 9:00pm.
Carroll reveals his true through the introduction of Charlie, his newest follower; Hardy learns of Carroll's plans and begins to turn Emma, Jacob, and Paul against each other in order to stall them; Emma makes a momentous decision.

Independent Lens, Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry. PBS, 10:00pm.
The life and work of the celebrated Chinese artist and activist are examined, highlighting his unique conceptual installations and exploring his challenges to the government's oppression, which have cost him his freedom on numerous occasions.

 

Tuesday

Body of Proof, Abducted - Part 2. ABC, 10:00pm.
After Megan discovers key information in their search and deduces the identity of the serial killer, she must withhold the knowledge from her team and the police to protect Lacey's life; Kate comes under fire of District Attorney Dan Russell.

 

Wednesday

Survivor: Caramoan - Fans vs. Favorites, New. CBS, 8:00pm.
The game takes a sudden turn after Malcolm and Corinne's bond leads to a new twist for the participants, all while alliances formed from the beginning start to shift after unrest and trust issues culminate into a fiery Tribal Council.

Modern Family, Best Men. ABC, 9:00pm.
Mitch and Cam's best girl friend drops in to announce she's getting married, and asks the boys to be best men; Gloria has trust issues with her new nanny; Claire has a bonding moment with Haley; Phil helps Luke with a girl he likes.

Battle for the Elephants, Special. PBS, 9:00pm.
Journalist Bryan Christy and Aidan Hartley go undercover to explore and expose the criminal system behind the supply and demand for ivory, and along the way, they reveal the little-known complexities of the highly intelligent and social animals.

 

Thursday

Zero Hour, Pendulum. ABC, 8:00pm.
Hank returns from India with a renewed determination to find Laila, who knows that she needs to start leaving a trail of clues in hopes of Hank finding her; Hank faces off with White Vincent again; Hank's parents seem to be hiding a secret.

 

Friday

Touch, Eye to Eye. Fox, 9:00pm.
A race against time begins after Jake contacts Amelia with information about a meeting location and the two escape their supervision, leading Martin and Lucy to search after them; Guillermo must make a brutal decision in Mexico.

 

Saturday

Saturday Night Live. NBC, 11:30pm.
Host Kevin Hart; performance by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

 

Sunday

The Simpsons, Gorgeous Grampa. Fox, 8:00pm.
The family discover Grampa's history as a "Gorgeous Godfrey," a villainous professional wrestler who was once admired by Mr. Burns, who soon convinces Grampa to come out of retirement and climb back into the wrestling ring.

Red Widow, Pilot & The Contact. ABC, 9:00pm.
Stay-at-home mom Marta Walraven's life changes drastically after her husband is murdered, as she must now take on his responsibility under the thumb of crime boss Schiller, who she believes will let her go if she successfully completes his task.

The Walking Dead, Clear. AMC, 9:00pm.
Realizing they are heavily outgunned against the Governor's forces, Rick leads an expedition to get more weapons. Rick, Carl, and Michonne encounter a stranger on the road. Note: I usually watch Talking Dead too.

Vikings, Rites of Passage. History, 10:00pm. - - UPDATED - -
During the 8th century in Scandinavia, a warrior and farmer pursues wealth through unconventional means with a secret project that is sure to revolutionize, but convincing his community's leader to share in the prestige is unlikely.

The CIA and the Iranian hostages. Won Golden Globes and has a lot of Oscar buzz.

Atlas Shrugged: Part II
Objectionists, libertarians and assorted followers of Ayn Rand rejoice.

Anna Karenina
19th century love story set in Russia.

The Following, The Siege. Fox, 9:00pm.
When Claire receives a phone call that may lead to finding her son, Hardy and the FBI set their next move into motion, causing panic at the farmhouse; Carroll seeks a lawyer from his past to send a message with deadly results.

Independent Lens, The Powerbroker: Whitney Young's Fight for Civil Rights. PBS, 10:00pm.
The civil rights leader's journey to the head of the National Urban League is chronicled, exploring his dealings with the white elite, the allies he made in business and government, his responses to attacks from the Black Power movement, and more.

 

Tuesday

After Newtown: Guns in America, Special. PBS, 9:00pm.
The evolution of guns in the United States is examined, including the first European settlers, firearms' link to violence, the clash of cultures that reflect the differing visions of America's national identity, and more.

FrontLine, Raising Adam Lanza. PBS, 10:00pm.
The young man responsible for the mass killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., is profiled, revealing who he was, his motives and other mysteries; the heated debate over gun laws and gun culture is examined.

Body of Proof, Abducted- Part 1. ABC, 10:00pm.
Megan returns to work after Peter's death, and is surprised by a man from her past, Tommy Sullivan; Megan and Tommy, along with his partner, work to stop a serial killer; Megan learns that that the killer is holding her teenage daughter hostage.

 

Wednesday

Modern Family, Bad Hair Day. ABC, 9:00pm.
After deciding to attend her college reunion alone, Claire inadvertently runs in to a professor she once dated, resulting in an awkward situation after Phil shows up by surprise; Meanwhile Gloria refuses to admit the new baby is becoming exhausting.

Nova, Mind of a Rampage Killer. PBS, 9:00pm.
Correspondent Miles O'Brien explores the possibility that the desire for their own death and media glory are what drives spree killers, while also examining the information that science can provide about a brain that is at risk for violent behavior.

 

Thursday

Zero Hour, Face. ABC, 8:00pm.
After a deadly confrontation with White Vincent ending in more questions than answers, Hank decides to set a course for India determined to uncover the next clue that will lead to a better understanding of his own past as well as the woman he loves.

 

Friday

Touch, Perfect Storm. Fox, 9:00pm.
Unforseen developments at Aster Corps force Martin to make a decision and strike a deal; Lucy visits the police with new information on Amelia's kidnapping; Guillermo is spotted in New York and is hunting for Martin and Jacob.

Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited, The Second Doctor. BBC America, 8:00pm. (3 hrs.)
A detailed look is taken at earlier seasons of the iconic television show Doctor Who, a phenomenon that is still popular after 50 years, featuring The Second Doctor, his fearless Scottish highlander companion and his foe, the Cyberman.

The Walking Dead, I Ain't a Judas. AMC, 9:00pm.
Rick and the rest of the group are forced to make a decision after realizing that the overall security of the facility has been jeopardized; Andrea begins to grow concerned over the stability of Woodbury after it undergoes a drastic change. Note: I usually watch Talking Dead too

Looking Forward to New Seasons of TV Shows

TV This Week icon

Here are the TV shows that I'm waiting to see new seasons of - both broadcast TV and on DVD.

 

Broadcast Television

Doctor Who (BBC America), returns the end of March. The Doctor has a new companion.

Breaking Bad (AMC), returns this summer for the series finale. Will the DEA catch Heisenberg?

Mad Men (AMC), returns April 17, 2013. How will moving into the late 1960s affect the Madison Avenue ad agency?

Vikings, (History), series premiere March 3, 2013. The History channel tries its hand at scripted drama.

Southland, (TNT), returns February 13, 2013. Last season with guest star Lucy Liu was very good.

Body of Proof, (ABC), returns February 19, 2013. Several characters have left the show, how will it do without them?

Revolution, (NBC), returns March 25, 2013. Rebels bring the battle to Philadelphia. Who will have more power in this post-apocalyptic drama?

 

Television Shows on DVD

Game of Thrones second season (HBO), release date is February 19, 2013. I liked the first season though not as much as most people I know.

Homeland second season (Showtime). No release date on Amazon yet but it is available for pre-order. First season recently released.

Treme third season (HBO). No release date on Amazon yet but it is available for pre-order. A fine drama with good music set in New Orleans after Katrina. Anthony Bourdain is listed as a writer.

Boardwalk Empire third season (HBO). No release date on Amazon yet but it is available for pre-order. Season 2 released not long ago. Bootleggers and crooked politicians during prohibition in Atlantic City - what's not to like?

Maggie devises a plot to put an end to Hardy and his pursuit of Carroll; tensions rise as Paul reveals a secret that Jacob has been keeping from Emma.

 

Tuesday

FrontLine, Cliffhanger. PBS, 8:00pm.
In-depth interviews with key people in Congress and the White House take investigative correspondents behind the scenes as they delve into the reasons why Washington has failed to solve the nation's debt and deficit problems.

State of the Union, Interrupting All Broadcasts. Major Networks, 9:00pm.
Not sure if I will watch or not.

 

Wednesday

Survivor: Caramoan - Fans vs. Favorites, She Annoys Me Greatly. CBS, 8:00pm.
The newest group of castaways, 10 veterans who have played the game before and 10 die-hard fans, begin their journey as they prepare to survive in the Philippine jungle; personalities instantly clash between both tribes after everyone settles in. Season Premiere, 1½ hrs.

Modern Family, Heart Broken. ABC, 9:00pm.
A Valentine's Day romp between Phil and Claire's alter egos, Clive Bixby and Juliana, takes an unexpected turn that puts Claire in the hospital; Gloria and Jay's attempts at romance are foiled by the kids; Cam and Mitch host a wild Valentine's party.

Nova, Earth from Space. PBS, 9:00pm.
With help from NASA scientists and data from Earth-observing satellites, a new space-based visual of Earth is produced, revealing the forces that help sustain life, how the Sahara fertilizes the Amazon, what drives the oceans' currents, and more. 2 hrs.

 

Thursday

Zero Hour, Strike. ABC, 8:00pm.
A mysterious treasure map is found within Hank's wife's antique clock shop, and Hank must decipher the symbols contained within while ensuring that the answers do not fall into the hands of the sinister man known only as White Vincent.

Do No Harm, Me Likely. NBC, 10:00pm.
Jason agrees to grant Ian his wish of a rendezvous with the object of his desire, Olivia, if Ian will pose as Jason at a black-tie event; Ian's antics push Lena into the arms of another man and puts Young's daughter in mortal danger. Note: This has been cancelled, not sure if any new episodes will air.

 

Friday

Touch, Enemy of My Enemy. Fox, 9:00pm.
Martin's mission to uncover clues and expose the sinister Aster Corps has global consequences when an employee is crossing the border in Pakistan; Guillermo continues to track down his targets; Jake leads Lucy to a woman with a connection to Amelia.

 

Saturday

Saturday Night Live. NBC, 11:30pm.
Christoph Waltz hosts, Alabama Shakes musical guest.

 

Sunday

The Simpsons, Hardly Kirk-ing. Fox, 8:00pm.
Bart and Milhouse explore the perks of being adults when a shaving experiment surprisingly leaves Milhouse looking exactly like his father; Marge desperately tries to save Maggie from the dangers of children's television.

The Walking Dead, Home. AMC, 9:00pm.
A debate arises within the prison on what the next course of action should be, and Rick continues his search for a lost friend; Daryl and Merle are left to make a daunting decision; the Governor sets out to get revenge on the Woodbury invaders. Note: I usually watch Talking Dead too
